Info Sessions for Carpentry Program: November 4th and 11th @ 1:00-2:00 pm

NOW RECRUITING!

Miziwe Biik Aboriginal Employment & Training in partnership with George
Brown College Presents:

The first 9 weeks of this 6- 8 month Pre-Apprenticeship Program will provide
interested candidates with Academic Upgrading and Prior Learning Achievement
Recognition (PLAR) with the Toronto District School Board, towards achieving an
Ontario High School Diploma (Upon Completion) and/or refreshing their academic
skills. During this period participants will also develop their Resume and Job
Retention Skills with First Aid Training, WHMIS and Fall Protection
Certification to follow.

During the next stage of training, participants will
spend 10 weeks at George Brown College earning their Level 1 Carpentry Training
and 1 week of a Secondary Trade.

Finally participants are supported in obtaining
construction and carpentry related jobs. Tools, transportation, and training
allowances are some of the possible supports for eligible participants.

Program Components include:

• Guest Speakers
• Orientation to Construction Workplace
• Carpentry Pre-Apprenticeship Training – Basic skills module
• Tool kits, Safety equipment and textbooks
• Academic and Employment Skills Training
• Job Coaching
• Assistance to secure employment upon completion of the program

Applicant Requirements and Recruitment:

• 15 of the available spaces will be reserved for persons ages 16 to 24
• Interested in improving reading, writing and math skills
• Minimum Grd.10 or equivalent, but, Grd. 11 to 12 preferred
