Personality Dimensions®

This dynamic tool is the culmination of the research and validation work that was done in Canada for over a decade, to support temperament theory, and to provide an easily understood methodology for building self-awareness, self-esteem, and effective communication strategies involving social interaction and conversation techniques.

Self-Esteem

Building Self Esteem is the first step towards your happiness and a better life. Participants will understand what Self-Esteem and the impact it has on our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well being. Participants will look at techniques to maintain a positive self-esteem.

Stress and Unemployment

Stress is part of our everyday lives. Unemployment, networking and job searching can cause prolonged stress. In order to control the physical and emotional consequences of this stress we first need to be aware of how we react to stressful situations. Participants will gain the  knowledge can help develop coping strategies to alleviate the physical and emotional reactions to stress. These coping strategies can enhance job search strategies and improve quality of life while being unemployed.

Identifying Your Skills – 2, 3-hour sessions

Participants will discover all the areas in our lives where we gather skills. They’ll become aware of the skills they have and become familiar discussing them. They will learn the three types of skills and understand their definitions as well as look at specific examples and how they relate to various occupations. Participants will use a number of paper-based tools and a self-assessment..

Goal Planning for Personal Success – 1, 3-hour session

Participants will learn successful Goal Planning skills are essential to achieving positive results in all areas of ones life. Participants will learn the S.M.A.R.T. formula and use it together with the Goal Action Plan (GAP) to set personal goals. When goals are met, self esteem is enhanced and motivation is increased.  Each participant will develop a personal Goal Action Plan using the S.M.A.R.T formula.

Networking and Self Marketing

Participants learn the importance of being able to talk about their skills and experiences in positive ways. Participants will explore easy and effective ways to use networking skills to expand and maintain contacts  to create win-win situations. Participants will use a self-assessment tools to identify their own networking skills.

Research, The Magic to Finding Employment

This workshop will show participants how Research can be a positive and motivating experience. Participants will learn the P.E.P. (Print, Electronic and People) technique to effectively gather research to move forward with their employment preparation. Participants will have the opportunity during the workshop to use the P.E.P. technique to gather research related to their job search.

Employer/Employee Expectations

All employers have expectations that they want employees to meet. Understanding these expectations will enable group participants to be better prepared for employment. Participants will also discuss their own expectations to determine what is not realistic and how to deal with feelings in situations where expectations are not met. Participants will engage in group activities and role playing throughout this workshop.

Choosing the Right Training – Decision Making

Some decisions in life are easy and can be made quickly. Others are more difficult and take time to think about. In this workshop Participants will learn that choosing the right training is a big decision often involving an investment of considerable time, money or both. They’ll learn the formula Self-Assessment, Research and Exploring Options and paper-based tools to make the decision that is right for them.

Cover Letters that Work

Participants will learn how to create effective cover letters which virtually guarantee them employers calls for interviews. They’ll look at the different styles of cover letters and how to personalize them. Participants may also bring a job advertisement to the workshop and receive tips and assistance with writing a cover letter targeted to that employer.  Each participant will be given a self-assessment tool to use when writing their own cover letters.

Resumes that get Results

Participants learn how to create effective resumes that are attractive to employers. They’ll look at three different types of resumes and discuss when each is most appropriate. They’ll review the process of writing a resume and discuss each step in the process. Participants will review excellent resume samples and receive a valuable take-home manual which will be distributed a the beginning of the workshop. Each participant will receive a self-assessment tool for use when preparing their resume.

Completing On-Line Application Forms

Participants will learn that application forms are sometimes the first introduction that the employer has with the job applicant. Forms that are correctly filled out in a neat fashion can give the employer some important clues as to the qualities and skills of an individual.  Based on the information provided on the form, employers decide whether they wish to interview a candidate. The skill of filling out forms is one that can be applied to may other areas of life.   Participants will spend time in the computer lab completing on-line application forms. If they wish to bring an job advertisement containing an on-line application form to class they can receive assistance completing it.

Preparing for the Job Interview

The ability to handle oneself well at an interview is a skill we can learn. The person most skilled at the art of job interviewing, not the most qualified, often is the successful candidate. Participant will learn what to expect and how to prepare for the interview and how being prepared can lessen the anxiety thereby increasing their confidence and chances of success.  Participants will use role-playing techniques to demonstrate the interview process.

Dress for Success

Proper dress and clean personal appearance are very important in conveying a positive first impression however many people feel their inhibited by low incomes and perhaps lack of knowledge in regards to what is appropriate attire when job searching. Participants will learn how to use their research skills to find out what is appropriate be introduced to other agencies that focus on dressing on a budget.  Each participant will also receive a referral to the Dress Your Best program.

Conflict and Active Listening

 Many causes of conflict stem from miscommunication. Participants will learn that Active listening helps us to hear the real message. It can reduce conflict and establishes trust so that the two parties is can cooperate. Participants will the techniques for Active Listening and demonstrate coping methods through role play.
